Cancer – What is It?
Cancer is a disease which creates panic among all of us just by hearing its name. Many or most of the times the symptoms cannot even be detected until it has reached the advanced stage. Therefore, we only have one way left out, that is to have regular checkups and medical tests done to detect any abnormality. Cancer is caused due to abnormal cell growth in our body. With the advancement of medical science, many of its forms are totally curable now, but many others still pose a challenge to human lives. The Human body contain cells, and it is through the growth of these cells that tissues are formed, tissues further form organ, and group of organs form an organism. When a particular cell formation interrupts this process, that is where cancer growth is initiated.
Treatment and Types:
With the advancement in medical science and technology, most of the cancer types can be treated, but doctors still cannot assure its total cure. The age of the patient also matters in this treatment. Some of the common types of cancer include: – breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, blood cancer, etc. Cancer is treated by either surgery or radiation therapy or hormone therapy, as per the need and requirement of the patient. Surgery is generally done to those types where a particular organ which is affected by cancer is totally eliminated from the body. Radiation therapy and hormone therapy are time consuming and depends more on the mental health of the patient and his sustainability to bear the same.
Cancer in India:
Cancer has become a common term in India as well, increasing in numbers year after year. With the growing pollution and increase in the number of smokers, lung cancer, and throat cancer is the most common type among men and breast , ovary and cervical cancer in women. Hence, Cancer specialists in India, has seen growth in recent years. Also with the changing time, diet and habits of people have changed a lot. People hardly get time to take care of themselves. But health and hygiene should be of prime importance.
Precautions and Diet:
Diseases can affect anybody, anytime. All we can do is to take precautionary measures, in terms of our food habit, lifestyle, hygiene, and environmental factors. Consuming colorful fruits and vegetables, leafy greens as salads, legumes, including fiber in our diet, consuming low fat dairy products, and quitting habits of smoking and drinking, especially alcohol and carbonated drinks, and adopting healthy habits such as meditation, exercise and yoga, pursuing our hobbies, and activities of interest can be of help to some extent. Raw turmeric, raw ginger, green tea contain antioxidants, and have infinite health benefits. Genes do play an active role in development of any type of cancer, especially for people having history of cancer, however we can at best try to take precautionary measures to curb the disease and stay away from it.
